A marriage between Microsoft’s search engine bing.com, and Yahoo.com would, in whole number terms beat Google.com’s monthly traffic volume. But just barely, and only for search and only in the US – at least, the US is the only market we’ve looked at so far.
Seeing a ‘new’ search engine rise to dominance after over a decade of Google unquestioningly being number 1, would be psychologically important to the market and potentially damaging to Google’s share price and almost ‘invincible’ status as a super stock.
Will we see it happen this year? Who knows, but one things seems clear at least, with Google being challenged in search, and beaten in social, the company needs Android, or Google Buzz to be successful.
