Texas and taxes

The US may be heading for a housing double-dip but nothing seems to be slowing the growth in Texas.

So what’s so special about Texas – Austen and Houston in particular? The answer is simple: low taxes.

A colleague moved to Texas originally to work with Enron, then left when it imploded, studied and upon finishing his studies promptly moved back to Houston. Asking him why his answer was purely economic “I pay less tax there”.

So how big is the trend of moving for work and lower taxes? In 2008, more than 10 million American’s not only moved jobs and houses, they moved states – sometimes right across the country to take up new opportunities and pay less to Uncle Sam.
